Miss Gay America 1976 was held in Houston, Texas, at the Depowitory. Shan Covington, of Texas, won the crown, completing seven months of his reign before having the title and crown revoked for conduct unbecoming of a Miss Gay America titleholder. The crown was offered to first alternate Michael Andrews, who declined so that he would be eligible to compete again. Second alternate Dani Daletto then accepted the responsibilities of Miss Gay america 1976 in a special coronation ceremony at the Miss Gay South Pageant in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Jose "Danny" Mondelano, know to many friends and fans as Dani Daletto, Miss Gay America 1976, passed away in 1989.
